If you had packed and moved your residential items in the past, I am sure you would agree that there were lots of silly mistakes that you could have avoided or could have done differently. Whether you hire Agarwal Packers or do the entire packing and moving on your own, there are certain silly mistakes that you are supposed to commit. We have talked a lot about what to do when relocating a house and shared lots of tips on how to do it hassle-free.

Today’s article is about what if you could have done things differently while shifting to a new home. As we all know, moving is complex, and avoiding little things like not convincing your children and family members about your relocation may be terrible. Let’s check what could be done differently while shifting to a new home.

Here’s what you can do differently when relocating to a new home

At the time of packing and moving, we pay more attention to the common things like searching for movers, negotiating with them, and getting things shifted. But there are a few other essential things that you should think of. Not sure what? Read further to know.

Talking to kids and family

When you pack and relocate from one city to another or from one house to another within the same city, it’s not that you are just shifting your home. Coping up in a new place, missing old acquaintances, changing schools, tuition classes, etc. might sound easy, but it is not easy for kids.

I think you should speak to your children and ask them to gather their friend's email or contact numbers to stay in touch with them. Talk to your children and let them know how exciting it is going to be in the new home. Involve them from the beginning in the process and they will like it.

Leaving it to professionals

Although the doing-it-yourself technique is more preferable option for local moves especially but then there are many things that are better to leave to experts and packing delicate items is one such task.

Packing things should not be an issue if you want to give it a try. But you should never try your hands on packing fragile items when relocating. It should be left to the movers because they can do it in a much better and secure way.

Keeping essentials with myself

There are many things that you should surely carry with you when relocating. Crucial items like jewelry, passbooks, financial documents, etc. should always be packed and moved personally. You should not hand over these things to the hired movers for transportation. If anything goes wrong, you will regret your decision.

Getting possession of your new home before moving in

This is very essential- imagine you come up with a full vehicle of goods and you notice that a showpiece is still going on in your house where you have to settle in. That could be terrible! Many of us might have experienced it in the past and regret it later. Sometimes it happens- you signed the lease agreement and planned your move accordingly, but for some reason general maintenance work could not get finished and it could be really bad.

Getting the pest control at your new house

It is always secure to get pest control and cleaning done at your new place before shifting in. By getting pest control done you can ensure that your new home is ready for shifting in. Especially when you are shifting into a new home that has been locked for the last few months. We all know how hazardous termites, bedbugs, and mice can be. So, before you relocate,  make sure you get the pest control done in your new home.

Turning off the main power switch before shifting

So just before you leave your old house, ensure to turn off the main power switch. It will help you to save on your electricity bill. Also, before leaving, check all the other switches too, or possibly switch off the main one.

Change the locks

Are you sure that you have not provided your key to anyone? If yes, then it is safe to get your lock system changed before you relocate. Changing the lock is essential and one should take it seriously. This will fully ensure your home security and that means only you can have access to your home.

Collecting deposit amount

You should not forget to collect the deposit amount from your landlord at the time of leaving. Make sure your homeowner knows about your move so that he can arrange your deposit on time.

Shutting up the bank account

Before you relocate, you should make sure that you have closed your old bank account and transferred it to a nearby bank situated in your new house. That means you don’t have to go too far from your new home to visit a bank. This will not only save you money but also save your precious belongings.

Essential items shopping

There are many things like brooms, jugs, water bottles, etc. that we leave and usually don’t carry along. That’s a good thing. But you should not forget to shop the essential items because you can’t do without these things even for a single day.

Getting the contact address right

After moving the first thing that you have to do is remember your new house address. Imagine when you order food from a nearby restaurant and end up telling the wrong address. Imagine how weird it can be. It’s simpler to forget or get confused so just get it done right.

Understand the area/locality.

Before shifting in, just do a little bit of research about the area you are moving in. Also check where you can get vegetables, groceries, etc. Check for the nearest medical shop, hospital, etc. When you are relocating to a new area, it could be really difficult to locate a medical shop in case of an emergency. You must research well before shifting and this is extremely crucial.

Conclusion

We rarely think about these petty things when packing and moving a house. Our priorities are different like finding a moving company like Agarwal Packers and getting it all done as quickly as we can. But as someone who has moved many times, I can tell you more attention to pay; much more seamlessly you will be able to relocate.
